Being in Motion/Being a Movement. Remaining in Solidarity.

Christopher Street Day Bochum 2022 – Demonstration and Program
SAVE THE DATE: 25 June 2022

On Saturday, 25 June 2022, Christopher Street Day will take place Bochum again. For the fourth time since its revival in 2019, we are organizing a demonstration for freedom and self-determination of sexual and gender minorities as well as against anti-LGBTQIA* sentiment. We stand in solidarity with queer people in neighboring European countries and worldwide – but also with other groups that experience marginalisation, discrimination and violence. In Bochum, we want to be visible together, take up space and celebrate (ourselves and each other).

The demonstration will be framed by a stage program in the city center and preceded by supporting events all around the city in the week prior, ranging from political education, activist self-organization and networking to art, culture and music.

This year’s motto „Being in Motion/Being a Movement – Remaining in Solidarity“ refers to the LGBTQIA* community of lesbians, gays, bi- or asexuals, trans* and intersexual, non-binary and queer people as a social and political movement. However, „movement“ also indicates  the political changes we will (hopefully) see this year. The so-called „Transsexuellengesetz“ (TSG, „Transsexual Law“) is finally about to be abolished and the parental rights are also to be reformed with regard to queer families. We can only achieve these and other long overdue, hard-earned improvements together – through community and solidarity. That’s why it’s all the more important to remain in solidarity now, both with each other as LGBTIQA*, but also beyond that, for example with people who face racist discrimination, with refugees and with people with disabilities.

All information about the Christopher Street Day Bochum 2022 is available on our homepage and Instagram channel:

Since 2019, the CSD Bochum is organized by a grassroots democratic plenum of individuals, some of whom are active in various associations and initiatives in the city, such as Rosa Strippe, the SCHLAU team or AIDS-Hilfe. The CSD is non-commercial and critical of capitalism. Consequently, there is no corporate sponsorship and no advertising by political parties.

Covid-19 Safety: In addition to testing for SARS-CoV-2-Virus on a regular basis, we recommend wearing a protective mask at all events. If you feel ill, please show solidarity by staying home. DANKE

19 June 2022 | 6 p.m. | Talk and evening tea

What is Queer Commoning, can I photograph it?

To discuss these and other questions, the artists Franziska Goralski and Eva Busch from atelier automatique invite you to an evening tea. The event is part of the program for this year’s CSD in Bochum and a longer-term engagement with questions of the common good in cultural work at atelier automatique.

Franziska Goalski has been engaged with the topic of queer commoning for some time, both artistically and activistically: „Between 2018 and 2020, I wanted to understand better what commoning is. Prompted by the „The Queer Commons“ issue of A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies, the question of what queer commoning is, what it looks like, and whether I can photograph it, for example, came up. I was interested in how drawings are equivalent to information vehicles to written text. In the map I provide my state of research and at the same time through searching, not knowing and asking I have addressed the factors that influence learning.“

Anyone interested is invited to stop by, think together with us and inquire. There will be drinks and some snacks.

There will also be Goralski’s artistic work published in 2020, „A learning environment for imagination: delving into social practices of queer commoning as situation shifting actions.“ on view. It is the starting point for a structural approach to (re)learning and practicing queer commoning. Inspired by this we want to get inspired to talk, link thoughts and forge a bridge between commons, caring and queer communities.
